The Old Somerset Horse Driving Club

The Old Somerset Horse Driving Club covers the historic county of Somerset in south west England, it is a small, friendly group and welcomes novices and those without their own turnouts as well as more experienced whips.

The club was formed in 1975 by a group of people interested in pleasure driving on a non-competitive basis. They hold monthly evening Meetings throughout the year, inviting guest speakers who give talks, sometimes including film/video or slide shows, on many and varied subjects, not always connected to horses.

Throughout the season (March to October) they hold monthly Rallies, enjoying country drives and picnics - and often a stop at a pub along the way. You do not have to have your own turnout to attend a rally, quite often a whip (driver) will be looking for a groom (passenger) or you can follow by car.

Once a year they hold a Club Fun Day - the only event that is not open to guests, but you can join on the day. It commences with show classes and is followed by cone driving and games. There is a wealth of knowledge within the club which not only the novice but all can draw on. We exchange ideas and help each other with problems.

There is a club magazine "Horse and Harness" which is issued free to members quarterly. In this there is articles, letters, adverts, in fact anything members wish to send in for publication.
